Patrol K9 & Detector Dog Trainer Course Training Topics

Classroom Instruction / Lecture

Students receive in-depth academic instruction in the following areas: Canine Safety, Canine Healthcare, Canine Kenneling and Transportation, Principles of Conditioning (Classical and Operant Conditioning), Marked Timing, Goal-Directed Behavior, Canine Olfactory System and Capabilities, Explosives and Narcotics Handling, Safety and Storage.

Canine Handling (Detection)

Students will learn how to imprint a canine using odor recognition protocol such as the four-hole variable and odor wall. Each step of the imprint process will be taken further to application of detector dog handling search patterns and search procedures in buildings, vehicles, warehouses, and open areas.

147 Hours

Human Tracking / Trailing

Start from the beginning and learn the methodology to teach tracking from Step 1. Through successive approximation, utilize ground disturbance and human scent to push the canine forward in training.

90 Hours

Patrol Techniques and Apprehension

Students will learn the fundamentals of bite work, grip development, gunfire stimuli, canine team selection (how to evaluate green canines), animal behavior (physiological and psychological factors), real-world scenarios, training operations and situational problem-solving.

Certification

Feel success as a trainer as the canine that you helped imprint and train completes the training by passing certification.
